Terms of Use for Sifdroid

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) cover your use of the Sifdroid Android app (“Sifdroid”, “the app”). Sifdroid keeps a record of the accounts, income, expenses, transfers, investment holdings and assets that you enter yourself, and it stores them on your device.

By installing or using Sifdroid, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

In short: Sifdroid only keeps records. It cannot move your money, nothing in it is advice, and your data sits on your phone rather than on any server of ours, so keeping backups is up to you.

Your use of the app is also covered by the terms of the store you got it from, which is normally Google Play. Where those store terms and these Terms disagree about something the store handles, such as payment, refunds or distribution, the store terms win.

Sifdroid is not meant for children. To agree to these Terms and use the app you need to be at least 13, or older if that is the minimum age where you live.

2. Your licence to use the app

Sifdroid is licensed to you, not sold. You may install and use it on devices you own or control, for your own personal use. That permission is yours alone: it is not exclusive, you cannot pass it on, and we can withdraw it if you break these Terms.

You may not:

• redistribute, resell, sublicense, rent or lend the app;
• reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, or otherwise try to get at its source code, unless the law says you may or the licence of an open-source component inside it allows it (see section 8);
• modify or patch the app to get paid features without paying for them, or help anyone else do so;
• remove or hide any copyright, licence or attribution notice.

3. What Sifdroid does

Sifdroid is a record-keeping tool. It documents money you have already moved on your own bank, broker or exchange, and it is built so that it cannot do anything else.

Sifdroid does not:

• execute, place or settle any trade, transfer or payment, and it has no ability to do so;
• connect to your bank, broker, exchange or card, and it cannot read your balances or transactions from them;
• hold money. It is not a bank, a broker, a custodian or a payment service.

Every number the app shows is worked out from what you entered. Your account balances, net worth, budget totals and portfolio values are arithmetic on your own entries and on prices and exchange rates from third parties. If an entry is missing, duplicated or mistyped, the totals will be wrong, and the app has no way of knowing.

When your accounts, assets or holdings use different currencies, the app converts them into your base currency using published reference rates. Income and expenses use the rate for the day they happened, and balances, assets and net worth use today’s rate. These rates can differ from the one your bank, broker or card provider actually used. An amount with no rate yet is left out of a total until one is available.

4. Not financial advice

Nothing in Sifdroid is financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.

The figures, charts and reminders are there for information. They know nothing about your circumstances, your goals or how much risk you can take. Investments can fall as well as rise, and you can lose money.

Your financial decisions are your own. Before you act on something you saw in the app, check it against your bank, broker or exchange, and consider speaking to a qualified professional.

5. Market data

Sifdroid shows stock, cryptocurrency and currency data from three outside providers: Finnhub, CoinGecko, and Frankfurter, which takes its exchange rates from the European Central Bank. Some features need an API key that you get from the provider yourself, under that provider’s own terms.

That data comes as it is. It may be delayed, incomplete or simply wrong, and it is not guaranteed. We do not produce it, check it or control it, and we are not responsible for it. A price in the app is indicative only. It is not a quote, an offer, or a price you can trade at.

Sifdroid is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Finnhub, CoinGecko, Frankfurter, Google, or any company, exchange, fund or asset that appears in it. All trademarks and names belong to their owners.

Any of these providers may change, restrict or shut down its service at any time, which may stop the feature that relies on it from working. We are not obliged to find a replacement.

6. Your data, and your backups

Everything you enter stays on your device, in the app’s private storage. We run no server and hold no copy of it. The Privacy Policy explains this in full.

That has a few consequences:

• If your device is lost, damaged, reset, or has the app uninstalled, your Sifdroid data is gone for good. We cannot get it back for you, because we never had it.
• Android’s cloud backup is deliberately switched off for the app, so nothing is copied off your device on its own.
• Backups are your responsibility. The app has an export function in Settings, under Data, for exactly that. It is worth using regularly.
• An export holds your financial data, so store and share the file carefully. Anyone who can open it can read it.
• Importing a backup replaces what is currently in the app, and that cannot be undone.

You are responsible for what you enter and for keeping your device secure. The optional app lock is an extra layer, not a replacement for a screen lock on the phone itself.

7. Sifdroid Pro

Some features come with a paid unlock called Sifdroid Pro. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and it does not renew.

• Google Play handles the payment, not us. We never see your payment details.
• Refunds go through Google Play under its policies. Any refund right you have by law is unaffected.
• The purchase belongs to your Google account rather than to the installed app, so it survives uninstalling and reinstalling, and you can restore it from inside the app.
• What Pro includes may change as the app grows. We will not take a feature you have already paid for and put it behind another purchase, though features can change or be discontinued as described in section 9.

If a purchase does not unlock as expected, try the restore option in the app first, then get in touch using the address in section 15.

8. Open-source components

Sifdroid includes some third-party open-source software, mainly Google’s AndroidX and Material Components libraries under the Apache License 2.0, along with smaller components under licences such as MIT, BSD and zlib. It also includes Google’s Play Billing and Play services libraries, which handle the Sifdroid Pro purchase. Those are not open source and come with Google’s own licence terms. Every component keeps its own licence, and nothing here takes away any right those licences give you.

9. Changes to the app

We may change, update or discontinue Sifdroid or any of its features at any time. We cannot promise to keep it working with any particular device, Android version, data provider or file format.

Since your data is on your device rather than with us, discontinuing the app does not delete your records. Even so, keep an export if you want them to outlast your use of the app.

10. No warranty

Sifdroid is provided “as is” and “as available”, with no warranty of any kind, whether stated or implied. That includes any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted and error-free operation.

We do not warrant that the app’s calculations, totals, prices, exchange rates or reminders are accurate, complete, on time, or suitable for any purpose, including tax, accounting or regulatory reporting.

None of this removes any right you have under consumer protection law in your country. Where such a law applies, these disclaimers apply only as far as it allows.

11. Limits on our liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost data, lost profit, investment losses, missed opportunities, tax penalties or other financial loss arising from your use of Sifdroid, from relying on what it shows you, or from being unable to use it.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid for the app.

12. Ending these Terms

Your licence ends automatically if you break these Terms, and you can end it whenever you like by uninstalling the app. Sections 4, 10, 11 and 14 carry on afterwards.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The current version is always the one published at this address, and the “Last updated” date at the top tells you when it last changed. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the updated Terms.
